Higher import bill ups Q2 trade deficit to $18bn

Trade deficit increased to $17.933 billion during the quarter ended September 2006, according to data released the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today.

While exports touched $30.876 billion in the period under review, exports totalled $48.809 billion.

Net invisibles stood at $11.005 billion leading to a current account deficit of $6.9 billion in the second quarter ended September 2006.
