The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) is revamping its communication network technology, Infinet.

The institute is implementing a new design for the network as per the recommendations of the standing technical evaluation committee.

Infinet, which comprises very-small aperture terminal (v-sat) and terrestrial leased lines, is used by banks, financial institutions and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in intrabank applications, including funds transfer, interbranch reconciliation and ATM handling.

Since most of the RBI servers used in interbank transactions are located in Mumbai and Hyderabad, these two centers have been linked through an 8 mbps optical fiber link.
