Insurance official sentenced in bribe case

A special Central Bureau of Investigation judge in Bhopal on Tuesday sentenced one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 to an ex-branch manager of United India Insurance, A K Jain for taking bribe of Rs 20,000 in a vehicle theft claim settlement case. Allegedly, the accused was caught red-handed while taking bribe from the complainant, one Mohammad Sajid of Bhopal, for settling a theft claim of his Toyota Qualis.

A chargesheet was filed in the court of special judge in June 2004 under section 7 and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Jain has also been sentenced two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 under section 13 (1) d of prevention of corruption Act 1988.
