K V Kamath , managing director and CEO of ICICI Ltd, today was awarded the Asian Business Leader of The Year 2001.
Business television network CNBC Asia Pacific and leading business logistics company TNT announced the winners of the inaugural Asian Business Leader Awards 2001 in Singapore.
Awards were also given for corporate citizen of the year, and innovator of the year.

Asian Business Leader Award 2001 was organised for the first time by the business television network CNBC Asia Pacific and the leading business logistics solutions company TNT.
The theme for this year's award was "Reinventing Corporate Asia". The award sought to identify and honor the men and women who have the vision, the management skills and the leadership qualities to prepare their companies over the last few years for the challenges of globalization and market volatility.
From 5 July to 14 September, people across the Asia Pacific were asked to nominate their choice for the Asian Business Leader of the Year online.
Once nominated, CEOs were asked to complete an entry questionnaire and provide details of his companies performance.
Strategic Intelligence and the Asian Business Leader Awards judging panel headed by distinguished economist, author and former Dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management, Lester Thurow, shortlisted 10 finalists after months of processing entries.
The list of 10 had four Indians: Azim H Premji, CMD, Wipro Ltd; B Ramalinga Raju, chairman, Satyam Computer Services Ltd, and N R Narayana Murthy, chairman and CEO, Infosys Technology Ltd, besides Kamath.
Others in the list were Richard Charles Helfer, president & CEO, Raffles International, Singapore; Flemming Jacobs, CEO, Neptune Orient Lines Ltd, Singapore; Kil-Seung Son, chairman and CEO, SK Telecom, South Korea; Myung-Kwan Hyun, chairman and CEO, Samsung Corporation, South Korea; Neil Montefiore, CEO, MobileOne (Asia) Pte Ltd, Singapore; and Mark Fields, president, Mazda Motor Corporation, Japan.
