LIC may invest Rs 9,000cr in equities

 "Our investments in equity at present is 8% of our total assets. We have decided to go up to 10%," A K Shukla, chairman of LIC, said.

 While indicating that investment in equities could go up to Rs 9,000 crore this fiscal, he said: "It depends on the market opportunities."

 LIC has assets of over Rs 4,14,000 crore of which 65% is in central and state government bonds.

 LIC's decision to increase equity exposure comes at a time when returns from G-Secs have become unattractive.
