Issues such as NPAs, capital and loan growth were discussed at the meeting

Press Trust of India Mumbai
The Reserve Bank today met a select group of public sector and foreign banks ahead of the forthcoming bi-monthly policy meet early next week.

The central bank usually holds the customary pre-policy discussions ahead of every monetary policy meeting with all public, private and foreign bankers, but this time around only a few bankers attended the meeting.

The central bank website also did not term the meeting as a pre-policy meeting with the IBA, which it usually does. When contacted an RBI spokesperson said it was an internal meeting.

Bankers, who were present at the meeting, said issues such as NPAs, capital and loan growth were discussed at the meeting.

"There was a general discussion on NPAs, restructuring, credit offtake, loan pricing and capital issues," Union Bank chairman and managing director Arun Tiwari told reporters after the meeting.

Among others who attended the meeting included the heads of Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Uco Bank and Deutsche Bank.
