The rupee opened 10 paise weaker and fell against the US $ in early trade today due to increased demand for dollars from importers.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the domestic unit, which fell by 57 paise to close at 50.07/10 on Friday, depreciated further by 10 paise to 50.17 against the greenback.

Heavy demand for the US currency from importers led to rupee's depreciation, traders said.
