Re firms up to 43.77/$, gilts steady

The spot rupee, which opened at 43.76/77 per dollar, firmed up to 43.64 per dollar in intra-day deals. It, however, slipped towards the close to finish the day at 43.77 per dollar on buying by PSU banks - but firmer than the last weekend close of 43.83 per dollar.

Sentiment was subdued in the government securities market with prices moving in a range of 20-25 paise today.

The 7.38% 2,015 bond closed at a higher yield of 7.49% as against the last weekend close of 7.46%.

Call rates ruled at 4.70-4.75%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 13,260 crore.
