Re moves up to 43.57/$, gilts decline

The spot rupee opened at 43.58 per dollar, and closed at 43.57 per dollar today as against the last weekend close of 43.61 per dollar.

Prices of government securities fell across-the-board following heavy selling.

While long and medium term papers fell by  30-50 paise,  short-end papers declined 25 paise.

The 10-year, 7.38% 2,015 bond closed at  an yield of 7.25% after touching an intra-day high of 7.28%. 

Call rates were higher at 5.20-5.40%, and reverse repo bids declined to Rs 3,800 crore.
