Re moves up to 43.76/$, gilts firm

The spot rupee moved up to 43.76 per dollar today as against the last close of 43.83 per dollar on dollar weakness in overseas markets.

The rupee, which touched an intra-day high of 43.66 per dollar on steady inflows, declined towards the close on buying by PSU banks.

Sentiment was bullish in the government securities market today.

While prices at the long end moved up by 30-40 paise, backed by buying by LIC, short and medium term papers closed flat.

The 10-year, 7.38% 2015 bond closed at an yield of 6.51%.

Call rates ruled at 4.70%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 21,000 crore.
