Re steady at 43.53/$, gilts decline

The spot rupee opened at 43.55 per dollar, and closed the day at 43.53 per dollar as against the last weekend close of 43.54 per dollar.

Gilts, which started on a bullish note,  declined during the day due to lack of buying interest. Prices dipped by 10-15 paise across-the-board today.

The 10-year, 7.38% 2,015 bond closed at an yield of 7.08%.

Call rates were steady at 5%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 35,000 crore.
