The Indian rupee came under pressure today after a five-day strong rally and fell marginally by five paisa to 46.39 against the greenback on dollar buying by importers.

The rupee had surged by 3.66 per cent to 46.34/35 in the last five days. It resumed steady at 46.35/36 a dollar against its previous close of 46.34/35 a dollar and later fell to a low of 46.50 before being quoted at 46.3950/4100 a dollar in late morning deals.

Dealers at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market said the activity was at a low ebb with small dollar buying by banks as well as sluggish trend in local stocks.

They said a strong rally in dollar against a basket of currencies in Asian trade also weighed on the India currency.

Indian benchmark Sensex was down 37 points at 1030 hours while Asian indices were trading in the green in late morning trade.
