Rupee down 33 paise against dollar in early trade

Strengthening dollar, fresh demand for the greenback from importers put pressure on the rupee today

Press Trust of India Mumbai
The rupee fell by 33 paise to Rs 57.84 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today, weighed down by dollar's gains against other currency.

Forex dealers said besides dollar's gain against other currencies overseas, fresh demand for the American currency from importers put pressure on the rupee.

They said, however, a higher opening in the domestic equity market, capped the rupee's losses.

The rupee had bounced back by 47 paise to close at one-week high of 57.51 against the US dollar on Friday following strong recovery in local stocks and fresh dollar selling by exporters.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex higher by 79.48 points, or 0.41%, to 19,257.41 in early trade today.
