Rupee strengthens on CAD, export optimism

The currency advances 0.4% to 53.97 a dollar

The rupee approached a seven-week high on optimism falling oil and gold prices will help narrow a record current-account deficit. The currency advanced 0.4 per cent to 53.97 a dollar here.

Call rates end lower
Call money rates ended lower  owing to lack of demand from borrowing banks. The rate finished lower at 7.25 per cent from the previous close 7.65 per cent.
