In spite of a liquidity crunch, State Bank of India (SBI), Bengal circle, which comprises West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar islands, expects to meet advance target of Rs 4,800 crore, a 30 per cent increase over the last year this fiscal.
For deposits, the bank has set a target of Rs 14,000, a growth of about 25 per cent, in the circle, this fiscal.
Till November, the bank had collected Rs 7,000 crore as fresh deposits in the region, and gave Rs 1,500 crore as additional advances.
Jayanta K Sinha, chief general manger of SBI - Bengal Circle, said the bank would open seven more branches, over and above 859 existing ones, in the Bengal circle shortly.
Under the annual branch expansion plan 2008-09, the bank is planing to open 142 branches, out of which 102 will be opened in semi-urban and rural areas. In addition, SBI will open 40 more ATMs in the circle. The bank has set a target of setting up a network of 1,100 ATMs in the circle by March 2010.
SBI on Saturday handed over a total of Rs 35.43 lakh to five non government organisations (NGO), as a part of its corporate social responsibility.
