"The representatives of the Association will sit on dharna till August 31 and on September 1, 16,000 employees will go on a 1-day strike in Delhi Circle," V K Gupta, general secretary of SBISA, said.

Banking services in Delhi Circle - which consists of 1,000 branches in western Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan Delhi and some parts of Haryana - are likely to be affected as a result.

The strike will be limited to the circle as demands are local and have to be addressed by the circle office.

The main demands are absorption of 170 sweepers on permanent basis, discontinuation of outsourcing of watch and ward staff, sweepers and day-to-day work like signature scanning and clearing.

Gupta alleged award staff (employees other than officers) are being victimised through open violation of service conditions, such as reopening of departmental enquiries, holding investigations on anonymous complaints and non-payment of overtime wages among others.

The association also alleged that unions' rivalry is being encouraged and the management union is pampered.

SBISA demanded filing up of 5,000 posts lying vacant in Delhi Circle and that steps be taken to bring the medical facilities available to the award staff at par with those available to other staff.
