Information, to be delivered in SMS form in nine languages, will include updates on weather, input prices, crop diseases, govt schemes and market prices of produce

Account holders of State Bank of India will soon be able to get mobile-based, personalised information on the farm sector developments at a nominal cost, the country's largest lender said today.

The information, to be delivered in SMS form in nine languages, will include updates on weather, input prices, crop diseases, government schemes/initiatives and market prices of produce, it said in a release.

"As per the new understanding, the service would be made even more affordable to SBI's agri customers," it said.

"This service would be particularly very useful in this year considering the erratic monsoon and fluctuation in prices of agricultural commodities," it said.

SBI has signed up a memorandum of understanding with RML Information Services, provider of Reuters Market Light, under which its customers can avail such updates against a nominal subscription fees, it said.
