To encourage educated youth to become ‘job creators’ rather than ‘job seekers’, the State Bank of India (SBI) has donned the mantle of a facilitator in Uttar Pradesh.
The public sector banking giant has joined hands with some leading institutes of entrepreneurship, industry, engineering, banking, etc to mentor greenhorns’ contribution to the state’s economy in a more direct way by opening industrial units.
SBI is organising a series of Entrepreneurs Development Programme (EDP) workshops in UP. The first such workshop was launched here today, which witnessed the attendance of youth desirous of becoming entrepreneurs from all over UP.
SBI’s partner institutes are Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Lucknow University, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
The workshop is aimed at inculcating entrepreneurship development skills in youth aged 18 years and above with minimum educational qualification of 10 plus 2.
The programme was launched by UP Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner (IIDC) V N Garg and SBI chief general manager (CGM) of Lucknow Circle Abhay Kumar Singh.
The state government has also offered to help through Udyog Bandhu and the network of District Industries Centre (DIC). Udyog Bandhu is the designated industry interface for investment proposals in UP.
Singh said the workshop would help build entrepreneurial skills among the youth, help generate employment and promote UP’s industrial development.
Garg noted, entrepreneurship was vital for an economy, as it helped create employment opportunities.
The programme will provide guidance for starting industrial venture viz details of the project, feasibility of the project, funding/ finances available, agencies to be approached etc.
To offer firsthand information about an industrial venture, factory visits and personal interaction/discussion with local entrepreneurs, has also been arranged.
