TS Vijayan is chairman of LIC

T S Vijayan today took charge as the youngest chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the public sector life insurer with nearly 74%
market share.

Vijayan, 53, has been appointed as the chairman of LIC for a term of five
years. Prior to becoming the chairman, Vijayan was managing director
incharge of marketing. Under his stewardship, LIC surpassed business records in premium collection and number of policies sold.

As managing director, Vijayan was also the architect of the concept of
satellite "Sampark" offices, which took LIC to the customers' door steps.

He was also instrumental in implementing LIC's ambitious information
technology roadmap, while heading information technology and business
process re-engineering department as an executive director. It was during
his tenure that futuristic projects involving state-of-the-art technology
like enterprise portal and data warehousing were conceived and implemented.

Vijayan had joined LIC as a direct recruit officer in 1977. His vision is to
make LIC a world class organisation by adopting the best practices and world class benchmarks in services, marketing, customer relationship management, information technology and human resource management.
