TS Vijayan is new LIC chairman

T S Vijayan (pictured) on Wednesday took charge as the youngest chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the public sector life insurer with nearly 74 per cent market share.
 
Vijayan, 53, has been appointed for a period of five years. Prior to becoming the chairman, Vijayan was managing director incharge of marketing. Under his stewardship, LIC surpassed business records in premium collection and in the number of policies sold.
 
As managing director, Vijayan was also the architect of the concept of satellite "Sampark" offices, which took LIC to the customers' door steps.
 
He was also instrumental in implementing LIC's information technology roadmap, while heading information technology and business process re-engineering department as an executive director.
 
It was during his tenure that projects involving state-of-the-art technology like enterprise portal and data warehousing were conceived and implemented.Vijayan had joined LIC as a direct recruit officer in 1977.
