Kolkata-based United Bank of India (UBI) is targetting extension of banking facilities to 1,841 villages having population over 2000 by 2012. Of these, physical branches will be opened in 45 villages and the rest will be covered through the business correspondent model.
This was disclosed by Bhaskar Sen, chairman and managing director of UBI at a special meeting to review the progress of implementation of financial inclusion Plan by Kolkata-based banks here today.
Rakesh Singh, additional secretary (financial services), Union ministry of finance, Government of India also has asked Kolkat-based banks to implement its Financial Inclusion Plan within March 2012 as per directives of the union government.
