The Centre has finally shown some urgency in filling up the number two slot in various public sector banks.

It has asked four shortlisted general managers to give their consent for appointment as executive directors of Dena Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, United Bank of India and Indian Bank.

K C Chakraborty, general manager, Bank of Baroda, is tipped to fill the number two slot at Dena Bank. Once this appointment materialises, Dena Bank will see the top two slots being manned by ex-Bank of Baroda hands.

Recently, A K Khandelwal was appointed as Dena Bank's chairman and managing director. Prior to his elevation, Khandelwal was the ED at Bank of Baroda.

H A Daruwalla, general manager, Union Bank of India, is slated to take over as the executive director of Delhi-based Oriental Bank of Commerce.

A R Nagappan, general manager, Indian Bank, and S K Goel, general manager, Andhra Bank, have been asked for their consent for appointment as executive directors of United Bank of India and Indian Bank respectively.

The present ED of the Kolkata-headquartered United Bank of India, K N Prithviraj, is likely to move over to Punjab National Bank as its ED. PNB's present ED, T S Narayansami, is reportedly tipped to occupy the number one slot at Andhra Bank.

Prakash Singh, executive director, Punjab & Sind Bank, is expected to occupy the top position in United Bank of India once the present incumbent Madhukar retires this month-end.

The number one slot at Punjab & Sind Bank is likely to filled by N Kantha Kumar, ED, Canara Bank.

The ED appointments, which were mired in controversy, had been hanging fire for nearly a year now.
