Operations at public sector banks were badly hit in East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand as employee unions went on a two-day nationwide strike from today to press for a wage revision.

All banks in the Kolhan region comprising of the industrial and mineral-rich districts of East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan downed their shutters. Employees staged dharnas in front of their banks to mount pressure in support of their demands.

The strike is 100% successful as no transaction is taking place in any bank, R A Singh, convenor of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Jharkhand, told PTI.

The strike was likely to cause a loss of Rs 3,000 crore in the state, including Rs 250 crore per day in Jamshedpur circle alone, Singh claimed.
