Filling the SSC CGL Post Preferences seems to be a big task for many aspirants while registering for Combined Graduate Level exam 2016.All those who are looking for central govt jobs in India, SSC CGL 2016 Exam is an important test to qualify.With an age limit prescribed, there is confusion over SSC CGL posts for candidates above 27 years.
The SSC CGL notification had very clearly specified the eligibility conditions for all 30 posts.According to it, candidates fulfilling the below criteria can apply:
- Age to be calculated as on Jan 1, 2016 (age relaxed for OBC,SC,ST, PH, Widows, Divorced women etc)
- Must have completed graduation (degree) as on August 1, 2016
But for certain posts, a different set of qualification exists.We have explained them below on getting large number of requests from candidates.
SSC CGL Posts for Age Below 27 years
This is a age group that is eligible for all the group B & C posts listed in the SSC notification except Sub Inspector in Central Bureau of Narcotics (upto 25 yrs)
Those belonging to reserved categories, age relaxation is applicable.For OBC 3yrs, SC/ST 5yrs, PH 10yrs.

I am SC/ ST & 29 years old.Can I apply for Assistant Post?
Yes.Although the max age for assistant is 27, since you are SC/ST candidate you are eligible to apply.
Likewise, OBC candidates upto 30 years are also allowed to apply for all SSC CGL vacancies.
Posts for Above 27 years
If you are a unreserved/ general category & aged above 27 years, you wont be able to fill preferences for all posts.
Candidates who fall in this age bracket are eligible for the following list of positions only:
- Assistant Audit Officer (AAO)
- Sub Inspector (National Investigation Agency)
- Sub Inspector (Central Bureau of Investigation)
- Assistant Enforcement Officer
- Assistant Section Officer
- Statistical Investigator (upto 32yrs)
Applicants of OBC above 30 yrs, SC/ST above 32yrs & PH above 37yrs can apply for the above 5 posts.
Final year students are eligible for SSC CGL or Not?
Final year/ semester candidates are permitted to apply for SSC CGL 2016 exam.
But they must be able to submit some proof that the result of the final exam was declared on or before August 1, 2016 at the time of document verification.
If your results are to be released only after August 1, you may register & appear for the CGL exam but will rejected during the verification of documents.
Widows & Divorced Women Age Limit
SSC is lending a helping hand for lades who are widows, divorced & not remarried by providing them with an opportunity to take care of themselves.
The maximum age has been extended upto 35 years (general), 38yrs (OBC) & 40 yrs (SC/ST).
Using this relaxation, they can apply for Group C posts only which are:
- Compiler
- Auditor
- Inspector of income tax (CBDT)
- Divisional Accountant (CAG)
- Accountant/ Junior Accountant
- Senior Secretariat Assistant
- Tax Assistant (CBDT & CBEC)
- Sub Inspector (CBN)
Remember, widows & divorced women below 27 yrs can apply for all posts & this facility is only for those who are above 27 yrs.
Now we hope the applicants above 27 years of age would have understood for which SSC CGL posts they are eligible.The last date has been extended upto March 24th.So don’t wait till the last minute.
