The battlefield of 1971 and the action at Nagi Sand Dune came alive in Sriganganagar District when veterans, serving soldiers as well as local populace stood today at the very sand dune, that 43 years ago saw and felt the roars of war. The nefarious act of Pakistan Army who captured Indian territory in village Nagi ten days after the ceasefire of 1971 war was put to naught by the brave action of soldiers of Indian Army who reclaimed the post.

To commemorate the occasion a number of events were held at Sriganganagar Military Station and Nagi Memorial on 27-28 December 14 by Amogh Division. Wreath laying ceremony was held at Shaurya Sthal on 27 Dec 14 and a Sand Art show was organised at Sriganganagar Cantonment which depicted the heroism of the martyrs of 4 PARA Battalion and 9 PARA Field Regiment. On 28 Dec 14, a Para Motor display and wreath laying ceremony was held at the War memorial at Nagi. It was followed by interaction with veterans and civilians of Nagi village present during the war.

In addition to other military dignitaries, the event was also graced by Major General TS Handa (Retd) of 4 PARA Battalion, Col Ranjeet Singh of 9 PARA Field Regiment and Lt Col Shailesh Bansal of 410 Field Company representing the units of the Parachute Brigade which launched the operation on 28 Dec 1971.
