938 hostels sanctioned under Working Women Hostel scheme since its inception benefitting 70,500 working women

Since its inception in 1972-73, 938 hostels have been sanctioned under the scheme of Working Women Hostel all over the country for benefitting about 70,500 working women and 9800 Children.

As per the Scheme guidelines, the proposals received through all the State Governments / UT Administrations and Corporate or associations like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHEM), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) etc. are considered.

The Government of India is aware of the acute necessity for construction of Working Women Hostels. The new proposals which are recommended by the State Governments/ UTs are placed before the Project Sanctioning Committee (PSC) for approval at regular intervals of time.

This information was given by Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Smt Krishna Raj in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
