The Ministry of Rood Transport & Highways has been emphasizing States/UTs from time to time for strict enforcement of the provisions of law to check the menace of overloading. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been asked to take strict action against truckers overloading on National Highways which may prove a deterrent measure. NHAI has also been asked to install Weighing Machines and other necessary equipments near key Toll Plazas on a pilot basis, to curb the practice of overloading. The Ministry does not maintain data on amount recovered as penalty from the overloaded vehicles.
