Action Plan to Minimize Road Accidents
United Nations had promulgated the UN Decade of Action targeting to reduce road accidents by 50% by the year 2020. All member countries of the UN including India are committed to this Mission, for which this Ministry is making efforts to enhance road safety on our highways, in collaboration with the states. Besides, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways have prepared a draft Action Plan for Road Safety based on the guidelines issued by the United Nations under Decade of Action for Road Safety. The same has been forwarded to the state governments with request to prepare action plan in respect of their state to improve Road Safety. This information was given by Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
