ATC Took Prompt Action During Communication Link Failure at Kolkata Airport; No Breach of Separation Between the Aircraft or Loss of Contact Occurred
ATC Services at Kolkata Airport remained unaffected yesterday in spite of communication link failure which occurred due to unserviceability of the BSNL infrastructure providing connectivity links for Remote VHF Radios, Radar data and Telephones. The feed from two Radars at Kolkata and one at Behrampur were continuously available. As a result, there was no any danger to aircraft nor impact on arrival and departure schedules of aircraft to and from Kolkata Airport.
ATC took prompt and immediate fallback measures applicable under such circumstances as per standard protocol. The operations were immediately decentralized to respective ATCs at Varanasi, Nagpur etc.
During this period, there was no breach of separation between the aircraft or no loss of contact as alternate modes of communication were used.
