Ban on Sex Determination Test
Sex selection/determination is prohibited in India. A central legislation namely the Pre-Conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PC & PNDT Act, 1994) for prohibition of sex selection/determination before or after conception, and for regulation of pre-natal diagnostic techniques is already in force throughout India. There are strict penal provisions in the Act to curb the issue of sex selection/ determination. Necessary legal action is taken by the Appropriate Authorities against violators of the provisions of the Act.
The Health Minister, Shri J P Nadda stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha here today.
