A delegation of ten Members of Parliament from Bangladesh, led by Muhammad Faruk Khan, visited the Election Commission of India today. The delegation met the Election Commissioners Sh. H.S. Brahma and Dr. Nasim Zaidi. The two Commissioners briefed the delegation about the Indian Election System and replied to their queries on various aspects of election management.
During the interaction, Election Commissioner Sh. H. S. Brahma emphasized the need for appropriate use of technology in elections, as it has become a game changer in elections and can help in meeting many major challenges. He underscored the need for increased voter enrolment and encouraging the registered voters to come out in numbers to vote. He referred to the demand for giving NRIs voting rights and said this has to be subject to legal feasibility. Election Commissioner Dr. Nasim Zaidi briefed the delegation about election expenditure issues related to political parties and candidates. He described the role of the expenditure observers and monitoring team in the expenditure monitoring of elections.
The delegates were also given a hands on demonstration of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) & Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) and they evinced keen interest in EVM and VVPAT.
