Children's Day Celebrations at National Bal Bhavan

The National Children Assembly and Integration Camp at the National Bal Bhavan on the occasion of Childrens Day, which this year also marks the 125th Birth Anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was inaugurated by the Minister of Human Resource Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani. Over 4500 children from Delhi and 500 children from the Bal Bhavan and Bal Kendras across the country participated in the function. The theme for the assembly and the Integration Camp is Swachhta (Cleanliness). During the function, the Bal Swachhta Mission was also launched by releasing upto 100 feet, a 10 feet wide colourful helium balloon in the grounds of National Bal Bhawan. The Bal Swachhta Mission focuses on the following themes:

v  Clean School/Surroundings/Play area
v  Clean Food
v  Clean Self
v  Clean Drinking Water
v  Clean Toilets

As part of the programme the Minister inaugurated an exhibition capturing interesting incidents of Nehrus life and paintings by children on the theme Swachhta. A Bal Sansad by the children of Navodaya Vidyalaya on the theme Swachhta was webcast live from the venue. A cultural programme on the theme Swachhta comprising the Swachhta song, Vaadya Vrind, classical dance by the children of Bal Bhavan and a performance by children of Kendriya Vidyalaya were presented. During her address to the children, the Minister congratulated the children on their enthusiasm and efforts and for presenting through their amazing talent the rich culture and heritage of India. She stated that after witnessing astounding performance of the children, she was of the view that the future of India was secure and bright in their hands. The Minister also announced that on 17th November, 2014, which is also the International Students Day, a group of children would be invited to the Ministry to interact with the Minister and the officials. The Minister also urged the children to lead the way for achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat through not only observing cleanliness on the themes indicated but also by striving towards purity of the mind and the soul.
