The B787 aircraft deliveries have been delayed by about four years due to production problems experienced by Boeing, Air India has received compensation from Boeing on mutually accepted terms due to delay in delivery of aircraft. Boeing had given certain guarantee in regard to the fuel burn performance of the B787 aircraft. However, due to significant delay in delivery and changes in design specification, Boeing has not complied with the guarantee. Issues of compensation has been taken up with Boeing by Air India. The B787 aircraft, however, has given a better fuel burn as compared to similar type of aircraft, which has resulted in considerable savings in fuel cost.

This information was given by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
