Consultative Committee meeting of MPs attached to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on CIPETs held

The Consultative Committee meeting of Members of Parliament attached to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers was held in New Delhi today. The Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Ananth Kumar chaired the meeting. Honble Members Shri Virendra Singh, Shri Rahul Shewale, Shri Sudheer Gupta, Shri R. Gopalakrishnan and Shri Mohammed Ali Khan took part in the meeting. The subject for the meeting was Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology(CIPET). A presentation was made before the Honble members about the CIPETs. It was informed that centers of CIPETs are functioning at 28 locations giving various diplomas and degrees. It was informed that 80,000 students will undergo training in CIPET this year and the number is likely to go up to one lakh by next year. Honble members were also informed that 11 more centers of CIPETs have been proposed.

Responding to various clarifications and suggestions by Honble members, the Union Minister directed CIPET to start a Plastic Waste Management Consultancy to provide guidance on managing the plastic waste. A National Institute of Plastic Research will be set up which will undertake research in various fields particularly those relating to use of plastics in agriculture and common mans life. The Minister said that the CIPET will set up a mobile exhibition which will go around the country informing people about the plastics use and its waste management. CIPETs will also undertake hand holding and training for rag pickers. To overcome the loss inflicted to CIPET due to severe floods in Chennai recently, Shri Ananth Kumar assured all support for its rehabilitation in the shortest possible time.
