Consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers held
The consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers was held in New Delhi today. The Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Ananth Kumar chaired the meeting. The Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir was also present in the meeting. Honble MPs- Sh Ramnath Thakur, Sh Sudheer Gupta, Dr Bansilal Mahato, Sh Mahendra Singh Mahra, Prof K V Thomas, Sh Virendra Singh, Sh Mohd. Ali Khan, Sh R. Gopalakrishnan, Sh Rahul Shewale, Dr K. C. Patel and Ms Kahkashan Perween participated in the meeting. The subject of the meeting was Assam Gas Cracker project".
A presentation on the project was made which was followed by the suggestions and remarks of the Honble MPs. Shri Ananth Kumar said that the project was part of the Assam Accord of 1985 but was moving slowly due to various reasons. The present government took it up as a challenge, and ensured its completion through committed and earnest efforts. The project was commissioned in January this year, and dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister on February 5, 2016. The Minister said that the project has given direct employment to 700 persons and indirect employment to 2000 persons. The plant will produce raw material for the plastic industry in the area which will provide jobs to over 1 lakh people. He said the plant is currently going through a stabilization period, and it is expected to become profitable soon after it starts operating at full capacity in next six months.
Assam gas cracker project is being run by Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer limited (BCPL) in which 70% share is with GAIL, 10% each with Numaligarh refinery and Oil India Ltd, and the remaining 10% share is with Assam Government. The complex is designed to process Natural Gas and Naphtha to produce 2,20,000 TPA LLDPE/HDPE and 60,000 tonnes per annum of Polypropylene. The main complex of BCPL is located at Lepetkatta, distt Dibrugarh, Assam.
