The Union Food Processing Minister has emphasized the crucial role of education and skill development in the future of the food processing industry which is expected to play a catalytic role in the growth story of India. Chairing the meeting of the Food Processing Education Council (FPEC) today Minister for Food Processing Industries, Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal emphasized the need for focused intervention at different parts of the food value chain from the farm gate to the consumer. One of the suggestions made by the experts was the need to include courses on food processing, nutrition and food safety in school curriculum.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries is working closely with the industry through Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative (FICSI) under FICCI on skill development. FICSI has selected Ernst & Young to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the food processing industry.
