Development of Technology for Extraction of Gas from the Marine Gas Hydrates in Deep Sea

National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) under the aegis of Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India is engaged in developing technologies for establishing the feasibility of. A Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle and an Autonomous Coring System have been developed for the exploration of gas hydrates. Giving this information in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today the Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Dr. Harsh Vardhan said various experiments are being conducted for studying efficacy of various techniques in extraction of gas from the hydrates. Experiments at the potential gas hydrates sites have also been planned in association with offshore industry for establishing the technical feasibility of extraction of gas from the marine gas hydrates.
