Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurates first-ever joint NDMC-AYUSH Polyclinic

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, DrJitendra Singh inaugurated here today, the first-ever Polyclinic jointly set up by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Union Ministry of AYUSH.

The clinic, unique of its kind, to be run jointly by the Ministry of AYUSH and NDMC is located in the heart of Lutyens' Delhi in Gole Market and the opening ceremony was attended, among others, by Secretary AYUSH Shri Ajit M. Saran and Secretary NDMC Smt. Chanchal Yadav and the Chairman NDMC Shri Naresh Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, it goes to the credit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that he has not only revived, but sought to institutionalize the traditional Indian systems of medicine at Government initiative. It is the present Government, he said, which set up an exclusive Ministry for AYUSH which is separate from the Health Ministry and it is the present Prime Minister at whose proposal the United Nations Organization unanimously accepted to observe June 21 at International Day of Yoga".

The need of the hour, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, was not to create barriers among different systems of medicine, but to seek holistic and optimum combination of all the systems, so that the patient gets the best. He suggested that a common OPD could be started where one physician each from Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani and Naturopathy together attend the patient and give the best for the patients requirement. For example, he said, in case of a patient of Diabetes, while Allopathic Physician would be best qualified to prescribe Insulin and other oral anti-diabetic drugs, a Naturopath could simultaneously advise on the kind of Yoga Asanas to be practised or the diets to be preferred while an Ayurvedic or Homepathic Doctor could prescribe adjuvant drugs or treatment for associated complaints.

Dr. Jitendra Singh referred to the extraordinary scientific progress made by CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) which has over 34 laboratories spread all over the country whose services are yet to be utilized completely.

He recalled that only yesterday, Indias first-ever GMP Medicine Plant for extracting, formulating and packaging drugs was started in CSIR Laboratory IIIM Jammu, and what is not widely known is that in the last few months, the same laboratory has come out with at least four original drugs related to tuberculosis, cancer and arthritis and hyperacidity which have stood the test of international scrutiny.

Complementing the NDMC and AYUSH for having come together in the test of health care, Dr. Jitendra Singh offered to coordinate with them the services of the Drug Scientists from CSIR and Allopathic streams of medicine.
