Food Corporation of India (FCI) has supplied 16,500 packets of rice, in 10kg, for distribution in far flung areas of flood affected Jammu Kashmir on the request of State Government. More such packets will be provided if requested by the State.
After receding flood water, offtake of foodgrains by the State Government has also started. So far, 21,000 tone rice offtake has been reported this month.
This was informed to Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Ram Villas Paswan during a meeting taken by him to review the availability of foodgrain in the flood affected regions of Jammu & Kashmir.
Shri Paswan directed FCI to ensure uninterrupted supply of PDS to the state and if required release foodgrains on credit basis also.
He was informed that FCI had 1.9 lakh tonne foodgrains in its godowns as on September 9, 2014, enough to meet the PDS requirements of the State for next 3 months.
After the opening of Jammu - Srinagar National Highway supply of foodgrains from Jammu to Srinagar valley has also resumed.
