The Minister of state (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel has said that as per information provided by All India Football Federation (AIFF) I-League has not been discontinued, however, AIFF has initiated discussions regarding restructuring of the I-League with various stake holders.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today he said, development of a sport is the responsibility of the concerned National Sport Federation (NSF) and the State Governments, as sport is a state subject. Government supplements the efforts of the NSF by providing financial assistance for various activities. AIFF has informed that action has been initiated by them for preparation of good football players by youth and grass-root development. Government has provided funds to AIFF for training of players abroad. The Santosh Trophy Football Tournament is being played every year.
