Governor of J & K Shri N. N. Vohra to deliver Dr. Anandswarup Gupta, Memorial lecture tomorrow
The Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs is organizing its annual event - Dr. Anandswarup Gupta Memorial lecture to commemorate the 45th Founders Day of BPR&D here tomorrow. This years lecture would be delivered by the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri N. N. Vohra. This lecture is organized to commemorate the BPR&Ds founder Director Dr. Anandswarup Gupta. Dr. Gupta briefly served in the Royal Air Force before joining the Indian Police in 1939. Dr. Gupta was appointed as first Director, when the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) was established in 1970. In addition, he was also the first Director of Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, New Delhi. He wrote two books on Police Crime and Police in India (up to 1861)" and The Police in British India (1861-1947)". He was, indeed, an intellectual giant and visionary leader whose invaluable guidance, care, insight, and mentoring could lead BPR&D to emerge as a renowned organization of Government of India in the field of research & development of police related matters.
The mission of BPR&D is to stimulate and facilitate methodical studies of endemic and emergent problems in the principles and practices of law enforcement policing and reformative correctional systems in the country so that workable enduring solutions that factor in local environment conditions may be evolved and adapted by the departments in different regions and give Unity in Diversity a new meaning. It is the only research & development organization in the police department throughout the country. It has five divisions i.e. Research, Modernization, Training, National Police Mission and Special Police Division. BPR&D also has five outlying units as Central Detective Training Schools (CDTS) working at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ghaziabad and Jaipur along with one Central Academy for Police Training (CAPT) at Bhopal.
