Khadi Training Centres to be set up at Observation Homes across the Country: NCPCR Chairperson

A Khadi Training Camp has been set up for inmates of the Aadharshila Observation Home, Kingsway Camp, New Delhi. The Training Centre was inaugurated by the the Supreme Court Judge, Justice Madan B. Lokur last evening. The Khadi Training Centre has been established by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Delhi Government. The Centre will provide training in spinning and weaving of Khadi threads and clothes.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Lokur said the training centre will go a long way in instilling confidence in the inmates and once these children leave the Observation Home, they will find their training useful in providing them sustainable livelihood. He urged the inmates to take full advantage of the facilities. He hoped that NCPCR will set up similar centres in all Observation Homes across the country.

KVIC Chaiperson, Sh. V.K. Saxena with whose initiative the Khadi training centre was set up, hoped that the children at the Home will reform themselves and gain enough confidence to face the outside world. He said, operating a Charkha does not need special skills but a person who can operate it can earn about Rs. 200 a day.

Welcoming the guests, NCPCR Chairperson, Smt Stuti Kacker informed that the inmates of the home have faced multiple deprivations and they are mostly from weaker economic background. She said, Spinning on Charkha will be therapeutic and provide these children with mental peace. She said NCPCR will replicate the project in more than 300 existing Observation Homes in the country. Smt. Kacker informed that NCPCR will try to obtain funds from industry and businesses under their CSR scheme and the same would be used for improving Observation Homes in the country.

Members of NCPCR, Shri Yaswant Jain and Shri Priyank Kanungo, Member Secretary, NCPCR, Smt. Preeti Srivastava, Director, Women & Child Development department, Delhi Government, Ms. Dilraj Kaur, Officials of the Home, among others, were present on the occasion.
