KhadiGramodyogBhavan under the Ministry of MSME stared its Sales campaign of livery of freedom (Khadi) in a truly Gandhian ideology way and on the basis of his constructive programme of Cleanliness here today.
All the staff and officers of the Bhavan has decided to clean the showroom and take the oath to give minimum 100 hours in a year not only to clean the Bhavan but also the Connaught Place where this is situated in a heritage Building.
On the occasionShri MadhavLal, Secretary,Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterpriseswas welcomed by Shri Anil Kumar,Chief Executive Officer, KVIC and Shri S. N. Tripathi Jt. Secretary,Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.The Secretaryinaugurated Gandhi Jayanti special discount sales campaign paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation. On the occasion he operated E-Charkha which generates electricity while operating by hand.
The Secretary overviewed the Khadi, Village industries and handicraft products displayed at various sections in the Bhavan and appreciated the products, packaging and way of display.
While addressing the press Shri MadhavLal informed that the Khadi Special Discount Sales Campaign will be for 108 working days. 20% discount will be available on Khadi products and 5% additional discount for students.
PMEGP scheme is the flagship program of the ministry which is implemented through the KVIC as nodal agency providing finance, capacity building, skill development and market linkage to the artisans.
A large number of silk material including wide range of silk and cotton sareesvizBaluchari, Bomkai,Kantha, Kanzivaram, Tassar, Banarsietc tempt any women to enrich her wardrobe. All most all varieties of silk i.e.mulbary, tassar, munga, andi produced in India are stored here in large quantities. Similarly, woolen and pashmina shawls with Kashmiri embroidery, jackets, coats and large number of ready to wear garments in cotton, wool, silk and poly Khadi are in plenty to cater to the needs of the customers. An exclusive space is allocated to the designer garments for the fashion loving young and seasoned customers.
Wide range of herbal products including cosmetics, eatables etc can attract the health conscious people. Leather belts, wallets Purses, handmade paper products, honey and handicrafts on brass, soft stone, and semi-preciousjewelry are also available. Those interested in Gandhian Literature can also found large number of books written by the Mahatma Gandhi and books written on him by other prominent writers.
After the opening of the refurbished KhadiBhavan in February 2014 the sales has increased in eight months ie from Feb. to Sep. to the tune of Rs. 390 lakh from Rs. 205 lakh in the corresponding period of the previous year. This increase in sales of Rs. 185 lakh is surprisingly more than the corresponding sales of Rs. 150 lakhs and Rs. 117 lakhs in the financial year 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively. Accordingly, the foot falls have also increased substantially. It is planned to increase the sales in the next ten years from Rs 5255 lakhs to Rs 32495 lakhs.
This ultimately increases the number of Khadi, village industries and handicrafts product supplying institutions, units, and entrepreneurs from 600 to 2000. The product range and line are also to be magnified to two thousand from the present number of seven hundred. The software is also so developed to cater to the demand of preparing and printing one million cash memos against the present level of thirty thousand only.
