Actress Angela Maria Garcia, representing the crew of the Colombian film Los Hongos by award-winning Director Oscar Ruiz Navia addressed a press conference at the 45th IFFI in Goa today. Explaining the significance of the film, Ms. Garcia said that it is a point of view film about a Colombian city Cali and shows how people belonging to various sub-cultures in a city express themselves through various art forms, graffiti, music etc. The film, she said, is shot in a very non conventional way since the actors are not given any pre-written scripts and has little or no rehearsals.
On being asked about the film industry in Colombia, Ms Garcia said that it is not so big as in India and does not get much support from the government. The TV industry is very huge in Colombia so much so it also produces f or TV in the US, she added.
Commenting on her experience at the IFFI and in India, the actress replied that she watched a few films and would love to shoot in India. The drug cartel carries no influence on the Colombian film industry although it is a very popular subject both for film industry as well as TV and we need to change that now, Ms Garcia said.
Los Hongos is the second feature film by Director Oscar Navia. The film won the Jury Prize at Lucarno Film Festival.
