Delegation of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of Manipur have submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Home Affairs and MoS (Home) Shri Kiren Rijiju demanding extension of the Sixth Schedule provision of the Constitution in the hill areas of Manipur.
In the year 2001, the Government of Manipur had conveyed its no objection to the extension of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in the tribal areas, in the hill districts of Manipur with certain local adjustments and amendments. The Government of Manipur was requested to send details of local adjustments and amendments. The Government of Manipur has not sent details of local adjustments / revised proposal in this regard so far.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju in a written reply to a question by Shri K.C. Tyagi in the Rajya Sabha today.
