Micro-planning is the key to bringing down the TFR in the country: Shri J P Nadda

Special Focus on the Districts where TFR is high"

The government will re-strategize and focus on the districts where total fertility Rate (TFR) is high in order to bring down the TFR level in the country. There is a need to do micro-planning for these districts and develop need-based programmes to address TFR." This was stated by Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare in a function organised by Jansankhya Sthirita Kosh (JSK) to mark the World Population Day, here today. Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri B P Sharma, Secretary (Health) and Smt. Gauri Singh, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh, were also present at the occasion, along with other senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nadda stated that communication skills need to be developed at all the levels so that we can send the right message to the target audience. The Health Minister further stated that to reach out to the unreached we must do mapping and find out who we have missed in the programme. The promotion of family planning and ensuring access to preferred contraceptives are essential for securing the well-being of the people, while supporting the health and development of communities, Shri Nadda said.

Elaborating further, Shri Nadda emphasized on the need to enhance male participation in the family planning process and urged that we cannot achieve the desired results unless the men are not motivated to actively take part in family planning. Our strategy should also focus on this aspect, Shri Nadda added.

Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare said that population explosion is a big challenge for us. We can reap the benefits of population dividend only if we are able to provide good health, education and look after overall well-being of the people. Shri Kulaste further added that this requires participation at all levels from all stakeholders. He also highlighted the challenges in addressing the family planning needs in the backward areas of the country.

Smt Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare said that the problem of over-population calls for global revolution. She further added that it is our collective responsibility to fight this challenge. She appealed the people to come together and ponder over this issue and come out with solutions.

The participants also deliberated on the theme Zimmedari Nibhao, Plan Banao" focusing towards the benefits of family planning extend well beyond womans health, to incorporate her well-being and prosperity. Shri J P Nadda also gave away awards to the winners of the painting competition organised by Jansankhya Sthirita Kosh to create awareness regarding family stabilisation among young children.

Also present at the function were Shri B P Sharma, Secretary (HFW), Shri C K Mishra, AS&MD and other senior officers of the Ministry and representatives of development partners.
