Newly appointed Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Vijay Goel here today assumed charge of his office. Interacting with the media persons on the occasion, the Minister said Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has special focus on welfare and promotion of Youth and Sports in the country. Shri Goel said as a Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports it would be his endeveaour to do everything possible with the cooperation and support of all the stakeholders to fulfil the vision of the Prime Minister.

The Minister said India is sending largest ever contingent to participate in the Rio Olympics and these athletes have the support and best wishes of the entire country to put their best foot forward. Shri Goel said, he will devote 24x7 for promotion of sports and welfare of sportspersons. He said, as the country population has about 65 percent youth, efforts would be to generate interest among youth for participation in sports in a big way so that youth energy is channelized in the right direction.

The Minister was briefed by the Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs Shri Rajeev Gupta and Secretary, Department of Sports Shri Rajiv Yadav about the functioning and activities of the Ministry.
