Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Signs MoU with Ministry of Railways to Remove Infrastructural Bottlenecks

It is the result of a collective spirit and integrated-effort paving ways for more inter-ministerial cooperation in future, said the Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Railways here today. In the MoU, it has been agreed by both the Ministries that there shall be coordination between the two Ministries and the Ministries will not levy any charge for supervision, maintenance, departmental charges or land lease charges from each other. It has also been decided that Ministry of Road Transport & Highways shall construct complete ROB/RUB (including railway bridge portion) on NH Corridors on single entity basis and cost will be borne by MoRT&H. The MOU has been framed in such a way that approval of General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) as well as construction of ROBs/RUBs shall not be hampered due to departmental proceedings. This MOU will be a milestone in timely replacing all level crossings on NH Corridors by ROBs/RUBs added the Minister.

On the occasion, web-based programmes, developed by the Ministry of Railways, for a speedy clearance of various projects of road over/under bridges and track crossing have also been launched. Shri Nitin Gadkari asserted, the programmes have been developed for online submission for getting expeditious approval of various drawings related to RoBs/RuB within sixty days.

In his address, the Minister of Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu said This MoU has been an excellent innovative idea which will go a long way in effectively resolving all the interface issues related to the construction of RoB/RuB on National Highway Corridors. It would give a big boost to infrastructural development in the country and generation of employment, he added.

The Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shri P. Radhakrishnan and Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha also addressed the gathering on the occasion.

The MoU was signed by Shri S.K. Pathak, Executive Director, CE (B&SII) of the Ministry of Railways and Shri A.P. Pathak, Chief Engineer (Bridge) of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. The function was attended by key officials of both the Ministries.
