National Ambulance Code forRoad Ambulance Type L and M Notified

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had constituted an expert committee in February, 2012 to formulate National Ambulance Code alongwith detailed specifications for various types of ambulances in the country. The Expert Committee submitted a draft National Ambulance Code for approval of the Ministry. The Ministry has notified G.S.R.868(E) dated 8th September,2016 mandating specifications in accordance with AIS:125 (Part 1)-2014 for Road Ambulances of categories L and M manufactured on and after 1st April, 2018.

The Ministry is implementing a National Highway Accident Relief Service Scheme under which ambulance and crane are provided to the State Governments to take the accidents victims to the nearest hospital and to evacuate the damaged vehicles from the road accidents site on the National Highways. National Highways Authority of India also provides ambulances at every toll plaza on the completed corridor of National Highways.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
