The 10th Formation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will be observed at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on September 29, 2014. The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the function.
NDMA came into existence through enactment of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and it is the Apex Body mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for disaster management. It also coordinates efforts for an effective response to disaster or disaster like situation.
During the 10th Foundation Day, two technical sessions will be organized. The first one will be to analyze the lessons learnt during the successful response to Phailin Cyclone last year because of the best practices adopted. The second one will be on discussion on draft Guidelines of NDMA on School Safety and Community Based Disaster Management.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, other senior officials of MHA, leading experts on disaster management and others will attend the programme.
